Adding Claims

Click + Add Claim. Select Independent or Dependent, fill in the details, and click Add.

Dependent claims auto-insert after their parent family. Independent claims can be placed anywhere via the Insert After dropdown.

Importing from Word

Click 📄 Upload Claims. Handles Word list numbering, plain "1. " prefixes, multi-paragraph claims, and all standard dependency phrases.

Antecedent Basis (STATUS column)

✓ OK — no issues detected. △ ERR — a term is used with "the" before it was introduced with "a" or "an".

Files & Intake Form

Files uploaded in either tab are shared between all tabs. Upload once — available everywhere.

FileFormatUsed for
📋 Intake material.docx, .pdf, images, .txtInvention description, features, objectives — general background for all AI generation
⭐ Key Features.docx, .pdf, images, .txtClient-designated priority points — given MORE weight than other material; the specification, claims, and abstract must reflect every point
📑 Search Report / prior art.docx, .pdf, images, .txtPrior art — used for Background section. If unavailable, check No report next to the button; Background is then generated from claims and intake alone, without inventing prior art references.
🖼 Drawings.pptxFIG. labels auto-populate Figure Descriptions box
📊 Part Table.xlsx / .csvFigure | Part No. | Component Name — used in Detailed Description only

Mixed-format client material

Clients rarely send a single tidy document. The Intake and Search Report buttons accept multiple files at once, in mixed formats: Word (.docx), PDF, photos or scans (.png, .jpg, .webp, .gif), and plain text (.txt, .md). Word and text files are read instantly in the browser; PDFs and images are read by the AI, which extracts their text (and describes technical drawings) — this takes a few seconds per file and requires the AI backend to be reachable.

  • Select several files in one go, or upload more later — everything accumulates into the combined intake (or prior-art) text, each file under its own header
  • Re-uploading a file with the same name replaces its earlier content instead of duplicating it
  • Large PDFs are split into page-range parts automatically and extracted part by part (a progress toast shows the page range being read); images are limited to ~3.5 MB — compress oversized photos first
  • The badge or file label shows the filename for a single file, or a count (e.g. “3 files”) for several; originals are archived to the Drive project folder as usual

Status Badges

Green badges appear in the action bar when files are loaded: 📑 Report ✓, 🖼 Figures ✓, 📊 Table ✓, 📋 Intake ✓, ⭐ Features ✓. All files are saved to the Drive project folder automatically on upload.

Bidirectional Claim Flow

Claims can flow in both directions:

  • Draft Application → Claim Creation: Click → Edit in Claim Creation in the action bar to send current claims to the Claim Creation tab for AI-assisted editing
  • Claim Creation → Draft Application: Click → Transfer to Draft Application to copy polished claims back

📊 Part Number Table format (.xlsx or .csv)

Three columns: Figure | Part No. | Component Name. Example: FIG. 1 | 100 | housing, FIG. 1 | 102 | washing chamber.

📑 Prior Art Search Report (.docx)

Used by the AI to write the Background section with relevant prior art context.

Specifications

Figure Descriptions

After uploading drawings, the Figure Descriptions box is pre-populated. Add a description after each dash:

FIG. 1 - Perspective view of the portable washing system
FIG. 2 - Cross-section showing internal UV components
FIG. 4 - Exploded view showing assembly sequence

Figures with no description are auto-generated by the AI before the main specs run.

Generating Specs

Click ✦ Generate Specs. The AI makes ~10 API calls generating:

  • Technical Field, Background, Summary
  • 5 sets of Detailed Description paragraphs (~25 paragraphs)
  • 3–10 paragraphs per figure, scaled automatically to the number of components (e.g. a figure with 19 parts gets 7 paragraphs; a method figure with 12 steps gets 6)

Generation takes ~60–90 seconds. The status bar updates as each section completes.

Rewriting Sections

Each section has a ✦ Rewrite button. Type your instructions and press Enter:

  • "Make this more concise"
  • "Add more detail about the UV sanitization system"
  • "Rewrite to emphasize energy storage features"

Paragraph Numbers Preview

Below the Detailed Description is a preview showing each paragraph with its [0001]-style number, matching the exported Word document exactly.

Standard Paragraphs (Boilerplate & Alternative Embodiments)

The Standard Paragraphs panel below the Detailed Description adds commonly used patent paragraphs to the specification. It has two parts that work differently.

Boilerplate is inserted verbatim — it is never AI-generated. Because the exact wording of these clauses can affect claim construction, they come from a fixed, reviewed library so the language stays under the attorney's control.

Boilerplate clauses

Tick the clauses you want and click ➕ Insert Selected Boilerplate. Select standard set toggles the seven most commonly used clauses. Available clauses:

ClausePlacement
Open-ended terms (“comprising,” “including”)Top
Singular/plural (“a/an/the” include plural)Top
Approximation (“about,” “substantially”)Top
Numerical ranges include sub-rangesTop
Headings for convenience onlyTop
Spatially relative / directional termsTop
Features combinable across embodimentsEnd
Incorporation by referenceEnd
§112(f) means-plus-function statementEnd
Closing: modifications & equivalentsEnd
Closing: not exhaustive / defined by claimsEnd

Interpretive clauses are placed near the top of the Detailed Description; closing and provision clauses are appended at the end. Each clause becomes its own numbered paragraph on export. Insertion is de-duplicated — clicking again will not add a clause that is already present.

Alternative embodiments

Click ✦ Generate Alternative Embodiments to have the AI draft 4–6 invention-specific paragraphs (“In some embodiments…,” “In other embodiments…”) covering alternative materials, arrangements, optional components, equivalents, and configurations, grounded in the claims. These paragraphs refer to components by name only, with no reference numerals. If closing boilerplate is already present, the new paragraphs are inserted before it, so the “defined solely by the appended claims” paragraph remains last.

Draft Feedback Chat

The chat panel at the bottom allows interactive refinement using natural language. Click ? to toggle the built-in command reference.

Delete

Abstract

  • Click ✦ Generate Abstract to generate a 150-word abstract from the independent claims
  • The text box is editable — make changes directly
  • Word count shown — turns red if over 150 words
  • Abstract is saved to Drive and included in the Patent Draft export

Exporting

Click ⬇ Export ▾ in the toolbar for three options:
